Unknown Speaker 0:36 Hello, hello, hello. Welcome back to the podcast friends. Hey, before we get started a little housekeeping. I want to give you a quick heads up because January is Mentoring Month. And we are going to have a special week for you at the end of the month where I have had the privilege of sharing conversations with a variety of folks from leadership positions at Medtronic, talking about ways that you can embrace mentoring, and what it could look like in different situations. It has been so much fun, and I want to make sure you have it on your radar. Speaking of fun, I want to take this episode and do something a little different. And I was going to do this same idea as a wrap up in 2023. But I thought why not use it to start 2024 off. So today I am sharing 12 concepts or ideas or tools to help you with mindset, mental health. And I want to use the first letter of each month to discuss each tool now. I will tell you full transparency. I got the idea from a peloton work. It was so much fun. Okay, so let’s get started. J. Joy. Where are you finding your joy this year? Did you know that joy is one of the highest vibrations that we can feel. And if you missed the interview with Monty manners at the end of last year, we briefly touched on this idea. It’s so easy to be busy and on the go. But I want you to consider where this year you can actually take a moment and look through the filter of doing things that bring you joy. Okay, next up F feelings. This is an interesting one to consider this year. Listen, I have told you multiple times my sister often tells me I’m cold hearted and I don’t cry. But the truth is, I have become pretty good at feeling feelings in the privacy of my own home typically. And that’s thanks to a couple of coaches that I’ve worked with. Which by the way, especially my girl, Rhonda farm, who has been a guest on this podcast a couple of times, you should totally check her out. But why is this important? The reason we do anything is because of how we think we will feel I’ve talked about this before, right the think feel do model. When you feel committed, for example, you take actions to do whatever it takes to get the job done. When you are unsure, you likely don’t take action at all. And when we want to resist feelings, we often turn to escapes like overeating, over drinking, overspending, all the things that we think make us feel better in the moment. But the truth is, the core issue is still always there. And it’s important to feel the feelings in order to create the life you most want. Am magic. Okay, March is magic. And March is the month by the way that I turned the Big Five Oh, and magic is my word for 2024. That’s such an Aries type of move right to make March about me and my word, totally Aries. I want to step into embracing even more than I already do. The idea that there is something way more powerful than me to help influence what is possible. Unknown Speaker 3:56 I want you to think about where does potentiality live in your life. Maybe it’s divinity, God universe, supernatural, quantum physics, whatever it lands for you. I want us all to believe more and more in the magic around us. A agency. This is something I will speak about until I turn blue. I want you to know that you have agency in your life. And so often we talk about how the external things or circumstances cause our feelings. It’s not you truly lose your power when you think that because at that point, all the other things need to change. And listen, I just told you I’m turning 50 This year, right? I’ve tried and tried and tried to change things, the people all of it, it hasn’t worked, but I assure you, if I ever figure it out, I will be back here and I will be screaming it at the top of my lungs. So save yourself. You get to decide how you want to react to everything in your life. You have agency to start making the changes and knowing that will leave you way more empowered in your life. Unknown Speaker 5:00 If Unknown Speaker 5:01 motivation and momentum I’m going to use to hear I touched on this last week, people often think they need to feel motivated to make the changes in your life. And that is not always true. Sometimes you just need to feel willing, willing to take the first step. And as you get going, you start to build momentum. They’re two different things. I’m not sure if they still have them. But remember those merry go round things at the playground back in the day, you have to push it. And as you start running, it goes faster and faster, and then you like jump on and enjoy the ride. That’s what momentum is right? You have to get going. I mean, let’s be honest, I was for sure. Not that kid pushing that thing. In fact, probably half the time I was just the gal pretty plus gal, by the way, that didn’t do many dangerous things. But I do recall the other kids playing on that contraption. So start taking steps start getting going. And from there, you will build momentum. J Judgment. Listen, sometimes, many times we are afraid of what others will think of us. And so we don’t go after our dreams. Guess what? We all judge, you judge, I judge others judge. It’s a bit of human nature. And so what let them judge live your life as my girl Robin from peloton says, give them something to talk about. I mean, on a serious note, what if you didn’t care so much about what others think? I don’t know. Maybe that comes along with the idea of being 50 has been my life’s work. And I want to share it with you because I still work on it myself. My goal is to hopefully help you drop caring so much about what others think and do and say and care more about what you think of yourself at an earlier age. You want to know something I do know, people don’t actually think about us as much as we think they do. We are all just too busy thinking about what we think they think. Right? It’s so messed up. And you want to know something else that I know. We tend to be our own worst critics, our own judges. And we constantly judge ourselves. And I think if there’s one thing this year that we can change, it’s the conversation in our heads that we have about ourselves doing that can truly change your world. Okay, Jay, again, job. Your job does not define you. Again, reminder, I often do this work right alongside of you. And I am often referred to as Michel Medtronic for my patients, right. And after nearly 18 years, I assure you, I have a strong part of my identity that is tied to it. But I want you to think about how much power you give your job, all the places that you say your job frustrates you or is overwhelming, or whatever it is for you. I was there, I started getting certified for coaching, thinking I needed to get away from my job. And it was through learning all the tools that I realized it is never the job. And that is why I come here to talk to you. It is always what we are either thinking about the job, or maybe not setting boundaries around the job or not saying no, or not seeing the positive aspects of the situations. Again, knowing this is where you hold your power. Unknown Speaker 8:12 A action I often talk about the thing fuel do model, right? I just mentioned that when we’re in the feelings part. And the A think feel do is the action. But what I want you to consider this year is where can you take inspired, intentional action, not just running around like a chicken with your head cut off being busy, busy, busy, busy, busy and productive are two different things. And in this society, especially in this industry, busy is often a badge of honor. That doesn’t mean that we are making a difference in our lives. And it for sure doesn’t mean that you’re creating the life that you most want to live from being busy. So where can you take inspired intentional action, and take it in a way that allows you to be consistent and to move the needle on the things that you most want to accomplish? S support? What if this is the year that you start asking for support? I often hear people especially my high achieving friends say or think that you need to do it all. Or maybe you think someone or a partner or a teammate should just know what needs to be done. They don’t people cannot read our minds, which is most likely very good thing. But on the flip side, when you are out of your mind feeling overwhelmed and crazy, it is okay to ask for some support. And that can look like a number of things. Maybe it’s just time to vent. Maybe it’s asking for help with the kids. Maybe it’s taking five minutes to just step away and take a breath. Where can you add some ease and your life this year by asking someone for some Unknown Speaker 10:00 Port, oh, opportunities? Where can you take advantage of opportunities that come your way this year big or small? You never know what they lead to? Maybe a coffee chat could turn into a promotion next year? And also, what are you doing to earn the opportunities? You know, recently I’ve been seeing people get so frustrated because they think they deserve a promotion, for example, but what have you done to earn it? It’s not just a matter of like sticking around for X number of years. What are you doing to create the changes in your life, and I think it was Brendan Bouchard. A while ago, I heard him on a podcast talk about not being confused. Everyone is worthy, right, you’re human, you’re living, you’re here, you’re breathing, we are all worthy. But not everyone deserves all the same things. So when you are going after the opportunities, be clear, and the discussions of what you have done, and be sure to take advantage of any opportunities that come your way. And no, this can be a quick one. No, it’s a complete sentence. When you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed, you must be able to prioritize your life. And prioritizing your life may consist of saying no to some things. And that’s okay. A lot of times, our brain wants to tell us how terrible we are for not doing it all. But here’s the thing. When you say no to something, you are opening up a yes to another part of your life. Focus on what you are gaining by saying no versus what you perceive to be losing. And that will be a game changer for you. Okay, D decisions. This is where we wrap it up, Decisions, decisions, decisions, all of these tools come down to you deciding what works for you. You are always making decisions in your life, in order to create your life. And here are some fun things to consider. You can even make a decision ahead of time, you can decide every single morning when you wake up, for example, that today is going to be a great day. And you know what happens when you decide in advance? you prime your reticular activating system to find all the good things. And when you think something isn’t going to go well. Have you noticed it often doesn’t it because we all live with our own filters. We all have our own stories of what is going on. So why not try to make it a really good story this year. Okay, friends, that’s what I have for you today. You always get to write your story.
